Her Motherhood Journey

Becoming a mum was something I wasn’t expecting at that particular point in my life, but I wasn’t unprepared for it either. My first reaction was fear because, honestly, I’m still a small girl lol. 😂 Some people would probably say I was a baby having a baby. Almost four months into motherhood, what has surprised me the most is the depth of love I feel for this tiny human. You hear people talk about a mother’s love, but there are some things you really have to experience for yourself. It is one of those feelings that is best experienced rather than explained. I expected to bounce back almost immediately, but almost four months down the line, I’m still finding my balance. I’m learning how to navigate the changes that come with motherhood, from my body and my independence to the mental load of juggling all my different roles.

What She Enjoys Most

I love watching her grow and discover new things and new little attributes. When she started social smiling, I was completely taken. I love the way her lips turn into an O when she poops or farts, and the way she reacts when I sing to her. 😂 There is something beautiful about watching a little person slowly reveal her personality right in front of you.

A Challenge She's Overcome

One of my biggest adjustments has been learning that I can’t always move through life with the same level of independence I had before. I can’t make plans without thinking about her. My body has changed. My priorities have shifted. There is also the mental load of trying to be present as a mother while still being a professional, a wife, a creative and a woman with dreams of her own. I’m still finding my rhythm, and I’ve learnt to give myself room to do that.

What She's Building

Professionally, I work as a lawyer, Family Office Advisor and Private Client Advisor. A lot of my work involves helping families and individuals organise, protect and manage their wealth, businesses and personal affairs with a long term view. I also advise business owners on corporate matters, including CAC and compliance. My 9 to 5 is a big part of who I am, but it is only one part of me. Outside my professional work, I’m building things that are very personal to me. I’m developing my visual art practice through painting and creating. I’m also working on a fashion brand that is currently at the sample stage. Motherhood has actually made me want to do more. I’m becoming more intentional about the kind of woman I am because I want my daughter to grow up seeing a woman who is curious, creative, hardworking and willing to keep becoming better. I want to be a good role model for her.

One Lesson Motherhood Taught Her

Motherhood has taught me that you can't give from an empty vessel. There is so much giving in motherhood, and I’m learning that taking care of yourself and making space for the things that refill you is important too. For me, that includes my art, my work, creating things and simply remembering that I am still Eniola outside of being Mum.

Her Advice to Other Moms

You’re doing an amazing job. You may not see it yet, but trust the process. There is no perfect way to become a mother. We are all learning our babies, learning ourselves and finding our rhythm. Give yourself grace. You are allowed to be figuring it out while still doing a beautiful job.
